2008 Group Outings

As you can tell, we like to spend time outside. We enjoy it so much we decided we would invite others to join us. Below is a description of some of the trips we plan to do in 2008. To download a printable Acrobat pdf file of this schedule, click here.

(The Danger and Difficulty ratings are based on a scale of 1 to 5 with 1 being the safest/easiest and 5 being the most dangerous/difficult.)

Goldstrike Canyon Hike (February 2)

This is a great five mile round trip hike down to the Colorado River below Hoover Dam. There is a lot of scrambling over large boulders in the journey down to the river and hot springs located there. This is not a hike for younger children and is quite strenuous. Bring a lunch and water.

You return by the same way you came, so the hike can be as difficult or as easy as you like.  This is a hike that shouldn't be missed, but it's not easy!

Rock Climbing (March 1)

Bring your family and a picnic lunch for a fun time rock climbing in Red Rock Canyon. This will be a fun time for those who have and haven't climbed before. If you're not interested in climbing at all, come along anyway as there are many hiking trails located nearby.

Icebox Canyon (April 26)

This is a very popular hike that leads into a narrow slot canyon at the base of Bridge Mountain. It is very scenic and is great for the whole family.

Mummy Springs (July 12)

This is a reasonably easy hike that passes a 3,000 year old bristlecone pine, the oldest living thing in the region. The tree has been named "Raintree". The trail is the starting point for many hikes and is one of the trails that leads to Charleston Peak.

Black Canyon Kayak/Canoe Trip (September 27)

This canoe/kayak trip down the Colorado River below Hoover Dam is a popular all day outing. The cost is approximately $55-$65 per person (includes boat rental, permits and transportation to and from the river). Along the 11 miles from Hoover Dam to Willow Beach there are numerous hot springs, caves, short hikes and sand beaches. The launch time is 8:00 A.M.. This all day trip should not be missed! Bring a lunch and water.

Limited Availability – on first come, first served basis.
Calico Tanks Hike (November 15)

This is an easy hike into the heart of Calico Hills and is perfectly suited for families and children
